Your stepping stone Ltd

Swiss Cloud-Services for your Company

With the OpenStack-based stoney cloud, you can operate your IT infrastructure in Swiss data centres. You can customise resources such as virtual networks, computing capacity and data storage to meet your requirements.

With the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution from stepping stone AG, you can create IT environments and manage them using OpenStack CLI, OpenStack Dashboard or an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool of your choice such as OpenTofu or Terraform. If required, managed services such as backup, monitoring, maintenance or standby duty can be passed on to stepping stone AG.

Your Benefits

  • Self-Service
  • Flexibly scalable resources
  • Virtual Linux and Windows machines
  • Wide range of configuration options
  • Competent support
  • Swiss-based location

Scope of Services

Virtual networks

Within the OpenStack-based stoney cloud, you create the network topology according to your individual requirements. The private virtual networks are set up via software defined networking (SDN).

Each virtual machine has a private IPv4 address as standard and can also be equipped with a public IPv4 address.

Protect your virtual machines with flexibly configurable firewall rules (security groups).

Computing capacity

Create your virtual machines with an operating system of your choice and determine the quality class:

  • Enterprise VMs are operated redundantly across both data centres. In the event of a data centre downtime, the Enterprise VMs are automatically (or manually) started up in the other data centre and made available (redundant). The CPUs are not overbooked.
  • Standard VMs are operated in one or the other data centre (non-redundant). The CPUs are overbooked with a factor of ≤ 1.5.
  • Developer VMs are operated in one or other data centre on overbooked compute nodes (no guaranteed performance). The CPUs can be overbooked up to a factor of ≤ 3.0 depending on capacity utilisation.

The memory is generally not overbooked.

Data storage

The storage architecture of the stoney cloud infrastructure is multi-layered (tiered storage) and therefore offers the option of assigning different categories of data to different types of storage media:

  • Tier-1 (NVMe SSD) is designed for applications requiring very high speeds, such as databases or time-critical business applications.
  • Tier-2 (SATA SSD) is appropriate for operating systems or business applications requiring high speeds.
  • Tier-3 (SATA HDD) is suitable as mass storage for large amounts of data with less high speed requirements such as data backups.

The storage media are available via volumes (local discs), as ObjectStorage S3 or via NFS. Your data has triple redundancy and is stored in encrypted form. Checksum verifications are carried out for every reading operation to ensure data integrity.

All resources (network topology, virtual machines, CPU, RAM, storage space) can be adapted to the changing requirements at any time.
